Shopping Heroes

Doing the groceries with your childeren is often experienced as an unpleasant activity by the parents and the childrens themselfves. The client for this project thinks this problem can be solved with an app that allows children to go out in the supermarket by themselfves using gamification. Together with three other teammates I worked on a concept for this project.

My role

  • Design Research
  • Visual Design
  • UX/UI Design

Research

A target group survey was conducted to find out the needs of the target group. For this, both the parents and children were interviewed. For the children it was decided to conduct the interview on the basis of a collage.

In addition, research has also been conducted into trends within the target group of children aged 5 to 12 years.

What are the user needs?

Trend: Kids between the 8 and 12 years old love to share everything with their friends and family.

Concepting

The concept focuses on running a virtual supermarket. Parents make a shopping list that the children also have access to. With Augmented Reality, children can scan products in the supermarket by means of gamification. These scanned products are then added to the virtual supermarket and ticked off the shopping list.

    The app has these features:
  • Groceries list
  • QR scanner for products
  • Supermarket game
  • Radar
  • Augmented Reality
  • Mascot

Styleguide

During this project it was my responsibility to create the style for app. To make the app child friendly I used illustrations and soft colors.

Children are visually oriented.

Together with two teammates I had the responsibily to make the app interactive. We used the tool proto.io.
